Blue Cheer - Vincebus Eruptum LP

Blue Cheer “Vincebus Eruptum” (Mercury) Blue Cheer pretty much invented the form of ultra loud, ultra heavy primitive psych which still informs a whole spectrum of psychists to this day, & they did it with “Vincebus Eruptum”. When this came out in ’68, Blue Cheer was already swimming against the tide of increasing “sophistication” which would take psychedelic rock into prog & mellow proto new age & any number of other mostly unfortunate pathways, but their troglodyte take on the form, if it seemed hopelessly stunted at the time, now towers over the scene like an ancient Cyclops. The pounding drums; razor-sharp, ultra fuzzed semi-atonal guitar (Leigh Stephens melts brains) & screaming vox were obviously coming out of a post Hendrix world, but throwing out everything but the rawest, loudest, most brutal elements of the Hendrix model, & then blowing them out even further, & grafting a post Janis Joplin vocal trip over the top. Anyway, the album is already well known & well loved, as far as any album could be essential, this one is, & so here it is, in its original format (i.e. vinyl).
